June 14 2023 11:57pm

Since the release of our Framework DisplayPort Expansion Card there have been two generations of the card. Both generations of the card are compatible with all Framework Laptops. You can identify which generation of card you have by checking the part number printed on the back of the Expansion Card (outlined in green below)

  • FRACCDBZ01 is the DisplayPort (1st Gen) Expansion Card
  • FRACCDBZ01-2 is the DisplayPort (2nd Gen) Expansion Card

DisplayPort (1st Gen) Expansion Card

The DisplayPort (1st Gen) Expansion Card was an option on the Framework Laptop 13 (11th Gen Intel Core) and Framework Laptop 13 (12th Gen Intel Core). It passes through DP Alt Mode directly from the Mainboard, enabling support for the maximum DisplayPort version and monitor resolution supported by the processor.

DisplayPort (2nd Gen) Expansion Card

Alongside the release of Framework Laptop 13 (13th Gen Intel Core) the DisplayPort (2nd Gen) Expansion Card reduces system power consumption compared to the previous generation Expansion Card. This is achieved with firmware changes, and was announced in this blog post. The DisplayPort (1st Gen) Expansion Card can be updated to a DisplayPort (2nd Gen) by following this guide to update the firmware.
