To be safe, you should power down and unplug the system before cleaning.  You can use a clean lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol to wipe the external aluminum and plastic surfaces of the system, followed by wiping with a dry lint-free cloth.  Make sure not to use excessive liquid that could seep inside of the system, and avoid using any liquid cleaner inside of the laptop.
