How much battery life does the Framework Laptop have?
July 12 2022 6:32pmBattery life depends a lot on the workload being run as well as conditions like screen brightness and network access. We've benchmarked Mobilemark 2018 at 10-11 hours, but heavier workloads can result in much shorter battery life. There are a few things you can check and adjust to optimize battery life (following the instructions here):
- Checking to see if there are any applications in Task Manager using an unexpected level of CPU.
- Adjusting the Power Profile in Windows to Better Battery.
- Adjusting the screen brightness down.
- Checking if there are any USB devices plugged in that are staying in a high power state or not suspending.
If you are seeing high battery drain while the system is in sleep or standby, check the article on that.
Checking Battery Health
In Windows
Over the course of time using the Framework Laptop and cycling the battery, the battery will eventually wear out. To see the current charge capacity of your battery, you can:
- Open PowerShell as Administrator in Windows
Run "powercfg /batteryreport"
Open the battery-report file in the directory that is listed when the command completes.
This file will contain more information about battery usage and health. If you need to replace your battery, you can follow our replacement guide.
In Linux
There are a range of possible methods to check battery health, depending on your Linux distribution. In Ubuntu and other distros that use Gnome, you can check the Power Statistics application (gnome-power-statistics) for a detailed view of charge and discharge history as well as details on battery health.
You can also get an output of battery health through the terminal by running:
upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT1
