> This was written to clarify how we support Linux and what that means to Framework users.

### Officially Supported

We officially support Ubuntu and Fedora. For specific versions and releases, please refer to the platform links on our [**Linux compatibility page**](https://frame.work/linux).

The "officially supported" designation means these are the Linux distributions we work with extensively in daily usage for current and upcoming hardware releases. At the time of a hardware platform's release, we have validated solid support with these specific distributions, establishing them as our primary recommended experience.

Please note that official support applies to the default, stock installation of these distributions. If you modify your installation with custom kernels or alternate desktop environments, our support team may ask you to test your hardware using a live USB of a stock configuration to verify if an issue is hardware-related.

An exception to this is _Fedora, where we officially support the KDE Plasma desktop environment_ as we actively test against it. While Kubuntu is technically considered untested, its Ubuntu base should closely reflect the officially supported Ubuntu experience.

**Setting Expectations:** While occasional regressions can still occur, official support means we collaborate directly with the Ubuntu and Fedora teams to avoid bugs. If issues do happen, we actively work with our distribution partners to resolve them within the scope of their release cycles and based on direct customer bug reports.

### Community Supported

For community-supported distributions, please see the compatibility details per platform linked on our [**Linux compatibility page**](https://frame.work/linux).

We provide best-effort support for these distributions through troubleshooting and triage in collaboration with the community. When regressions occur, we work to a similar extent with our community-supported distribution partners to help resolve those issues within the scope of their release cycles and based on direct customer reports.

During triage, if an issue occurs on a community-supported or untested distribution, we will use our officially supported distributions as a comparable baseline. This allows us to definitively determine if the behavior is a hardware fault or a distribution-specific incompatibility.

### Getting Support & Reporting Issues

For general Linux support, we recommend [opening a ticket directly](https://knowledgebase.frame.work/contact/contact-us-rJfw7Ryglx) with our support team. While our Community Forums are excellent for crowdsourcing solutions and sharing knowledge, information found there should not be taken as officially absolute or accurate.

If you encounter a firmware-specific bug, please report it to our [**Software and Firmware Issue Tracker**](https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/SoftwareFirmwareIssueTracker/issues). For the fastest resolution, we prefer that you also open a support ticket _**and**_ include a link to your GitHub issue.
