My external 1080p monitor/TV is stuck on 640x480 resolution in Windows

If you are using an HDMI Expansion Card and are connected to a 1080p external monitor or TV, you may experience an issue in Windows where it is detected as a generic LCD flat panel, which defaults to a maximum resolution of 640x480. To resolve this, you must unplug the power cable for the monitor or TV from the outlet/surge protector and then plug it back in. This will force Windows to utilize the generic 1080p driver which will increase the resolution to 1920x1080. Simply turning the monitor/TV off and then on again will not resolve the issue.
