Touchpad not registering clicks or gestures aren't working

If you find that right click or gestures aren't working on your Touchpad, make sure you have the latest drivers installed on your Framework Laptop.

If you are on Linux or find that you are still having issues with right click or gestures, try disabling the PS/2 Mouse Emulation mode in BIOS.  You can access the BIOS following the instructions here using the F2 key at boot.  Use your keyboard to navigate to the Advanced Settings menu.  Change "PS/2 Mouse Emulation" to Off, and then save and exit the BIOS.

There were also a small number of early units produced that may have contact issues on the physical switch on the Touchpad.  Try pressing the bottom middle of the Touchpad firmly a few times to see if that resolves the issue.  If it does not, please contact Framework Support.

Touchpad sticks or rubs when clicking

If you are feeling or hearing rubbing or resistance when clicking (beyond just a normal tactile click sound), that potentially points to Touchpad glass misalignment. Check the bottom edge of the Touchpad to see if it is rubbing against the aluminum as you click. We found that our manufacturer had not tuned the glass placement well enough on some of the early production, which we have since fixed. If it is rubbing, follow the Touchpad Rubbing Fix Guide to resolve the issue.

If that doesn’t work or sounds daunting, reach out to our support team with an image of the Touchpad and your order number.

Touchpad not working at all

In the event you find the Touchpad is not working after reassembly, it maybe the result of the laptop having been powered on at some point while the Touchpad Cable was disconnected. Plug in an external mouse and follow the steps below.

  1. Open Device Manager in Windows (an easy way to get to it is searching for "Device Manager" in the Windows Search Box next to Start at the bottom left hand side of the screen.
  2. Click on the arrow next to Human Interface Devices to expand the menu.  It should look like this:
  3. If you see a yellow exclamation mark on I2C HID Device right click on it and click "Disable device."
  4. Next, right click on it again and click "Enable device" to enable it.

Touchpad not working and not found in Device Manager

If your Touchpad isn't working but can't be found in the Device Manager in the steps above, make sure the Touchpad Cable is plugged in internally on both sides.  Power off your laptop and follow the instructions in the Input Cover Replacement Guide to make sure the cable is fully seated properly.
